MARIANO RIVERA (BASEBALL SUPERSTARS)

In the beginning of 2007, after a strong spring training and four games without giving up an earned run, Mariano Rivera faltered. On April 27, after blowing two saves in a row, the Yankee closer’s ERA was 12.15. Rivera said what he had always said when he hit a bad patch: that he was fine, that no one had any reason to worry about him. Manager Joe Torre himself went to the mound to remove Rivera in one game. “How often have you seen that?” exclaimed a commentator, obviously shocked. Not often. What everyone had seen often but forgets each time is the immediate panic that occurs when Mo Rivera gets hit.
