CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND FIRM ORGANIZATION

Recent scandals involving large firms, in the US and elsewhere, have intensified discussion regarding the role and conduct of the corporation. The contributors to this book argue that much of this debate has taken too narrow a view of the issue of corporate governance, and question some of the key assumptions of economic models.

APPLIED COMPUTATIONAL ECONOMICS AND FINANCE

"This book is an important contribution to the rapidly growing literature on computational economics and finance. It provides an extremely well integrated presentation of dynamic economic models and some of the most effective numerical methods for solving them. It reinforces these ideas by providing illustrative solutions written in Matlab. This book should enable most people who do not have extensive prior background in computation to understand the key methods and ideas, and to actually begin applying these methods to their own problems. I think it will be an essential part of the toolkit of the applied practitioner in economics or finance."

THE ECONOMICS OF FINANCIAL MARKETS

Does economics have anything useful to say about the financial markets? The fact that most large financial firms employ sizable staffs of economists indicates that it does. During the last three decades the study of these markets has been transformed by a number of eminent scholars, several of whom subsequently received the Nobel prize in economics. The most illuminating of their contributions were the statement of the Efficient Market Hypothesis in its various forms, of the Capital Assets Pricing Model, and of options pricing theory.
